Mianwali Introduction, About Mianwali

Mianwali District  is a district in the northwest of Punjab province, Pakistan. It is capital is Mianwali city.Upper Mianwali is historically known for two prominent migrant clans namely Niazis (Pashtuns) and Awan. Over the years some Baloch made Mianwali their home and Awans. The Lower side of Mianwali is dominated by two prominent Jatt tribes Bhachar and Talokar and many other small Jatt tribes.

Deputy commissioners served as the head of the district until 2004. The first deputy commissioner was Captain A. J. O'Brien and the first district judge was Sardar Balwant Singh. The system continued even after the creation of Pakistan as a sovereign nation. It was not until the year 2000 that the new local government system was introduced  and three basic changes were implemented:

1) Divisions which used to be the third tier of the government were abolished and more autonomy was given to the districts with the aim of decentralization of power.

2) With this new status of the districts, nazims were to become the administrators of the districts, with more authoritative powers.

3) The post of D.C. was abolished with the aim of putting an end to bureaucratic rule; however, the bureaucracy was offered an olive branch by creating the new post of District Coordinating Officer. The nazim remained the main elected representative and administrator while the D.C.O.s served as representatives of the government.

It borders eight district: Attock District in the north, Chakwal District in the northeast, Khushab District in the east and Bhakkar District in the south, while Lakki Marwat lies to the west, Kohat and Karak districts to the northwest and Dera Ismail Khan District to the southwest.
In November 1901, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was carved out of Punjab and the present-day towns of Mianwali, Isa Khel, Kalabagh, and Kundian were separated from Bannu District (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa); hence a new district was made with the headquarters in Mianwali city and placed in Punjab province.

Kala Bagh Dam Great Need in Mianwali and Pakistan, The Kalabagh Dam

The Kalabagh Dam (Urduکالا باغ ڈيم‎), is a proposed hydroelectric dam on the Indus River at Kalabagh in the
Mianwali District of Punjab Province in Pakistan. Intensely debated and deemed a necessity since its inception,
if constructed the dam would have 3,600 megawatts (4,800,000 hp) of electricity generation capacity.

In December 2004, then President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf, announced that he would build the
dam to serve the larger interest of Pakistan. However, on 26 May 2008, the Federal Minister for Water and Power
of Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, said that the "Kalabagh Dam would not be constructed" and that the project had
been cancelled due to "opposition from Khyber PakhtunkhwaSindh and other stakeholders, the project was no
longer feasible".[2] In 2010 after the worst floods in Pakistani history, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza
Gilani, stated flood damage would be minimised if the Kalabagh Dam were built.

Namal Dam Mianwali

In 1913, British engineers, to meet the scarcity of irrigation and drinking water, built a dam on this
namallake and irrigated lands up to Mianwali city. But with the passage of time and construction
of Thal Canal and installation of tube wells, its utility of water squeezed up to some limit.
The gates of the dam are repaired by the irrigation department regularly but without enthusiasm.
The hill torrents and rains fill the Namal Lake round the year. Due to a drought-like situation in the
country, this lake dried up last year, which is the first incident of its kind during the last 100 years.
Presently, its condition is very bad.

Candles were burnt in UOS Mianwali For Peshawar Schook attack by TTP

On 16 December 2014, 9 gunmen affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) conducted a terrorist attack on the Army Public School in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar. The militants, all of whom were foreign nationals, included one Chechen, three Arabs and two Afghans. They entered the school and opened fire on school staff and children, killing 145 people, including 132 schoolchildren (all boys ), ranging between eight and eighteen years of age. A rescue operation was launched by the Pakistan Army's Special Services Group (SSG) special forces, who killed all seven terrorists and rescued 960 people. Chief military spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa said in a press conference that at least 130 people had been injured in the attack.
This was the deadliest terrorist attack ever to occur in Pakistan, surpassing the 2007 Karachi bombing.According to various news agencies and commentators, the nature and preparation of the attack was very similar to that of theBeslan school hostage crisis that occurred in the North Ossetia–Alania region of the Russian Federation in 2004.
